Should I consider installing a new HVAC system this SPRING?

As winter comes to an end and springtime emerges, this transition in weather shifts our needs for indoor comfort. During this time we might be considering our HVAC air conditioning system. If it’s working efficiently, if there are any needed repairs, servicing, or potentially a new installation. Spring offers the perfect time to consider upgrading or installing an entirely new system. While installing or upgrading your system can seem like a steep cost we'd like to offer some insight on the cost benefits. This can show how this might affect your HVAC costs short and long-term.

A new unit can work more efficiently: This is the best time to check if your HVAC system is working efficiently. Older units may have a hard time keeping up with changing temperatures, which can cause your unit to work harder. A harder working unit means more energy usage which also means a higher utility bill. A new unit will not only reduce your energy usage, but can lower your carbon footprint.

For instance, you might be wondering why your current utility bill is higher, around $200. But, when you first got your unit the bills were lower around $120. This is a sign that your unit isn’t working efficiently. Something could be wrong mechanically. Or, this older unit is just having to work harder. Months of expensive utility bills don’t make sense long-term. Purchasing a new unit could lower those utility bills down to a reasonable cost, working more efficiently while saving you money.

A new unit can better regulate temperature: Is your HVAC system able to regulate temperature properly? Spring may bring a fluctuation of temperature changes. A well installed and efficiently working HVAC system will be able to handle the changes in temperature fluctuation within your home or space. An older system may have difficulty with cooling or warming depending on your temperature needs. During transition months with extreme temperature changes is around the time when your utility bill may be at its highest. A newer unit can adapt better to changing weather while an older unit will have a harder time adjusting. If your old unit can’t adjust to seasonal changes it may be time for a new one. This can save on long-term and short-term costs.

A new unit can improve air quality: Premium air quality is highly valuable to maintaining health and peace of mind in your home. An older HVAC system may have a harder time maintaining air quality. A new system with high quality filters can remove any contaminants that are built up within your space. This means the air you are breathing with a new unit is literally cleaner air. Newer HVAC systems not only work more efficiently, but they also produce less byproducts limiting harmful effects on you and the environment. Maintaining air quality within your home can save on long-term health costs. Breathing bad air quality can cause respiratory disease, heart disease, etc. It can also irritate already pre existing conditions.

Professional Installation Matters: One of the most important and often undervalued things to consider with installations, maintenance, or servicing for HVAC is having it done professionally. While you may have found videos online teaching you how to DIY your HVAC installation or you have hired a ‘low-cost’ non licensed individual to install your unit. This can potentially cost you thousands of added dollars down the road. If improperly installed it could cause damage to a new HVAC unit. You may end up having repairs needed, the unit completely reinstalled, or cause damage to the new unit to the point where it is unusable. This means you will end up paying more down the road to have a licensed and experienced professional redo the work altogether. Having a professional install your unit not only guarantees the job is done correctly, but saves you money. At Air-Mart we highly recommend that you contact a local, licensed, registered, and experienced HVAC professional to have your installation done.

Your old unit needs too much maintenance: In the previous warm season you may have noticed that your HVAC air conditioning unit wasn’t working efficiently. Maybe you needed to get it serviced more than needed, or maybe you needed too many repairs done. After having an HVAC unit for so long they have added wear and tear over the years. Each HVAC unit has its own ‘lifespan’ as stated in the warranty. Once it starts to reach or has surpassed its ‘lifespan’ you may notice your HVAC unit starting to fail regularly, not maintaining or reaching the optimal temperature, making abnormal noises, etc. You may also notice that the repairs done on your unit have become increasingly expensive over time, such as a condenser unit which can cost on average about $5,000.

When you consider the amount of time you’ve had your unit and how efficiently it’s working you may want or need to replace it with a new one. Not only will this lower your costs long-term, it will work much more efficiently than the old unit. The average cost of a new unit can be around $2,500 to $12,000. The cost of the unit you get will all be dependent on the amount of square footage and space that you need cooled or warmed. Now if you consider the cost of some repairs it makes so much more sense to get a brand new unit. Not only will it save on repair costs, it will lower your monthly utility bill by working more efficiently. At Air-Mart AC & Heating we guarantee that we will uphold the warranty of the lifetime of any new units that we install. This can help with any future repairs on newly installed units as long as you ensure the care of your unit within its warranty standards.

Conclusion: As spring gets closer and the temperature starts to change, now is the ideal time to prioritize installing a new HVAC system. While you may be concerned about the costs of installing a new unit in the short or long-term it may be the most cost-effective choice. It can save you thousands on unnecessary repairs, higher utility bills, and abnormal costs.
