How to prepare your HVAC system for cool weather

As the fall and winter months get closer it’s a good time to consider preparing your HVAC unit for cool weather. You want to make sure that there are no issues with heating in any of the spaces in your home so that you can live comfortably. Here are a few things to keep in mind in preparation for the seasonal changes:

Cleaning around the outside of your unit: As the fall and winter months come you may notice debris outside your unit. This could be branches, grass clippings, leaves, etc. Keep the area free from any furniture, toys, or other objects. Look for any animal nests to avoid infestations and damage to your unit. Keeping the area clean will help maintain the effectiveness of your HVAC system, and limit the need for future maintenance.

Test Your Unit: Once the area around your unit is cleared, test to see if your heating unit works. Check the thermostat and change the temperatures to see if each room is warming up properly.

Clean/Replace Filters: We recommend changing your filters out at least once a month and more if you have pets, children, or any medical conditions. If your filters require cleaning make sure they are washed, dried, and put back in their designated place. Maintaining your filters regularly throughout the season is important to maintain air quality throughout your home.

Service & Maintain Your Heating Unit: Once fall comes it’s important that you have your heating unit serviced and maintained before temperatures fall. While your technician services your unit they can check if anything is wrong with it and make sure it’s ready to run smoothly during the winter months.

Maintain Warranty Standards: Always always always maintain warranty standards when taking care of your HVAC system. This, over everything, is very important. If there are any expensive repairs that need to be done, check your warranty. It may cover repairs or replacement as long as you make sure you are following anything advised within its standards.
